This project tackled the critical issue of fake news, highlighting its dangers and the ease of manipulation in today’s digital age. As the director, storyboard artist, video editor, and designer, I played a key role in creating a compelling explainer video and an interactive website for Alhurra’s investigative report exposing a large-scale fake news network in Saudi Arabia.
The journey began with in-depth discussions with the journalist, who meticulously built the story based on gathered information. Collaborating with the videographer and lighting team, I conceptualized filming strategies and translated them into a detailed storyboard using Procreate on iPad. Once manager approval was granted, the project moved into execution. We secured a studio for shooting B-roll footage and capturing key visuals. To simplify the complex story for viewers, I printed out fake news tweets and planned their presentation within the video.
Utilizing Adobe Premiere, I meticulously edited the explainer video, seamlessly integrating these elements. To further enhance the visual narrative, I incorporated motion graphics crafted with Adobe After Effects. Recognizing the need for deeper exploration, my manager proposed an extended format – an interactive website. Leveraging the versatility of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, I designed the website, ensuring all elements were animated, and creating an engaging and informative user experience.
This project exemplifies the power of collaboration, bringing together various skill sets – directing, storyboarding, editing, design, and animation – to expose the dangers of fake news and empower viewers with knowledge.
